Information You Submit
A name, phone number, or address entered into a search form is sent to the third-party provider that supplies those results. Oakland Residents Directory does not keep a copy of those queries on its own servers. A message sent to the contact address is used only to read and answer the contents of that message.
Routine Technical Logs
Hosting systems may record an IP address, browser details, pages requested, and time stamps. Those entries are reviewed in aggregate for site performance and broad page-use trends. Basic analytics or advertising measurement may also use cookies or similar tools when enabled.
How Information Is Used
The purposes are limited to running the reference, resolving faults, measuring traffic, and improving its pages. Visitor lists are not sold, and individual reader profiles are not built here.
Outside Portals and Services
Pages link to county and state portals, library collections, archives, and third-party search providers. Each outside service controls its own privacy terms and governs information entered there. Sponsored results are supplied by an outside company as well.
Who May Process It
Hosting and technical support providers may handle ordinary server logs. Analytics or advertising partners may receive the automatic information described above. Disclosure occurs when a valid legal demand requires it, or when needed to operate the service, and not as a routine sale of visitor data.
Security Practices
The site uses an encrypted connection, and technical logs are retained only for the purposes described above. Because there are no reader accounts, Oakland Residents Directory does not hold a reader password or account profile that could be exposed.
Children and Teens
The reference is intended for adults and is not directed to children. Personal information from anyone under 18 is not knowingly collected. If a minor has sent information, contact the operator so it can be located and deleted.
California Privacy Choices
California’s Consumer Privacy Act, Civil Code §1798.100 et seq., as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, can provide covered consumers rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of sale or sharing, subject to its scope and exceptions. The California Attorney General’s CCPA guidance explains those rights. Oakland Residents Directory keeps little personal data, so a request usually means checking the contact mailbox and applicable server logs, then removing eligible information.
Use the Contact page for a request. Government records held by California, Alameda County, or Oakland offices remain under the control of their custodians. The state’s 2026 DROP system may help with registered data brokers, but deleting a commercial copy does not erase an official deed, assessment, court, or voter record.
